What Is a Smart Key?

1. Replace the Battery
A weak battery is the most common reason the car stops detecting the key. Most smart keys use a small coin battery you can change at home.
2. Hold the Key to the Button
Many cars have a backup reader at the start button. Hold the key right against the button while you press it, and the car may start even with a weak battery.
3. Use the Emergency Blade
Most smart keys hide a small metal blade inside. Slide it out to open the driver's door by hand, even when the key is completely dead.

Can you replace a smart key if I lost all of them?
In most cases, yes. We program a brand-new smart key to your car on site, even when there's no working key left.
Do you work on luxury brands? We work on most makes. Call with your year, make and model and we'll confirm before we come out. Will my lost smart key still start the car? No. We erase lost keys from the car's memory when we program the new one. Should I get a spare at the same time? It's a good idea. A spare costs far less than replacing a lost key later.
